Homeopathic Advancement: For Clinicians and Scholars

Recent translations of Dr. Hahnemann's original writings, including
clinical notes and letters to colleagues have brought enhancement to the
way homeopathy is used. You are invited to visit the "Links" section on
the main web page to connect to the homeopathy site I recommend.
What I write should serve only as encouragement to further exploration.

Homeopathy expanded by the insights from Hahnemann's Complete Medical System
gives greater clarity to case management. This also enlists increased patient involvement
in understanding disease and enhancing their own healing process. Rudolf Verspoor and
Steven Decker have helped rekindle my desire to not only study the core writings of Dr.
Hahnemann and their application to modem health care needs, but also to study in
greater detail the lives of those for whom homeopathy came to be - our patients. Ralph
Wood Wilson, ND

[Statement from translator, Steven Decker]
After many years of studying the textbooks of classical homeopathy and visiting its
practitioners, I was forced back upon the core of the practice, namely Hahnemann
himself, in order to understand what might account for the inefficacy of such practice in
my own life as well as the lives of my acquaintances. Fortunately, I was able to read
Hahnemann in his own language, and through the lens of my understanding of a system
of philosophy termed the "Dynamic System" of which Hahnemann (as well as his
contemporary, Goethe) was a part (he was not a vitalist, but a dynamist). Gradually, the
main features of a great discrepancy between Hahnemann and modern day, so-called
classical homeopaths became evident.

I also realized that Hahnemann's text itself had been greatly distorted in its previous
English translations. Once he was read in the context of other dynamic contributors, his
work became ever more intelligible, revealing dimensions of his medical system which
none of his followers have ever fully caught up with.

The key point is that there are different principles of application for the law of similars.
This is hidden in the prevailing uniformitarian doctrine of classical homeopathy. Once
one grasps this key, one sees that the various modes of practice can be related to an all
encompassing multidimensional system of great flexibility, which Hahnemann called
Heilkunst or the remedial art.

After translating the Organon anew, the writings of Rudi Verspoor caught I my
attention. He had somehow found a way into Hahnemann's multidimensionality. I was
able to shine a greater theoretical, Hahnemannian light upon his much-embattled clinical
experience while gaining clinical proof of what Hahnemann had been telling us all along.
I felt a renewal of hope in our collaborative effort to restore the full scope of
Hahnemann's medical system itself, but also to make a start on revealing the larger
context of dynamic therapeutics. Steven Decker, translator of Organon

Notes on Hahnemann's Complete Medical System

Rudolf Verspoor talks about the work of the homeopathic doctor/practitioner as if it
were the job of a detective/lawyer* [following are selected excerpts]--

Jurisdiction and Principles

As I noted earlier, disease is like a crime. Your body is the scene of the crime,
and the perpetrators must be prosecuted. There are different jurisdictions in
natural law. We have to decide where we will prosecute the case.

We round up the usual suspects, decide under which jurisdiction which aspect
of the case belongs. We have to decide because there are multiple jurisdictions.

Each dimension or jurisdiction has its own particular competence and principles,
and type of remedy...

1. Nutrigenic: Resonance (suitability) of diet/regimen. This is the valid realm of
opposites. If you are thirsty, you drink water. If you are cold, you put on warm
clothing or sit near a fire. The emphasis in the case is the sensations reflecting the
imbalance of the sustentive power. The resonance is between the individual and
[their] diet and regimen....The treatment: Changes in diet & regimen will resolve
the matter.

2. Homogenic: Resonance of action. The emphasis in the case is the irritant
actions. Irritant actions = what happened? We have an action resonance. We
are not so much interested in the symptoms as in what occurred....We need a
homomorphic medicine or medicines which act directly on the disease irritation.

3. Iatrogenic: Resonance of drug. The emphasis in this case is the conditions
(e.g. dropsy), or what was caused as a "side effect" of the material drugs.....We
have "isodes", remedies made from the synthetic drug.

4. Pathogenic: Resonance of pathogen. The emphasis in the case is the
pathological signs....The remedy is made from disease material ("nosodes").

5. Ideogenic. Resonance of thought. Emphasis here is the behavior, which
exhibits and demonstrates the core delusion....We need an ideomorphic remedy
that encapsulates the form of the egocentric delusion.

The practitioner needs to decide where to go to settle the case, and at which
level. The practitioner then decides the competent jurisdiction to hear the case,
and prosecutes according to the principles of treatment valid in that jurisdiction.

The above information will give you an idea of the complexity case mangement. It is
just a sketch of some of the items considered. This information is not sufficient to
practice the system that includes sequential homeopathic prescribing. It also may
not be enough to convince a classic homeopathy practitioner of the system's validity.
The texts mentioned in another handout will do a good job of beginning their
process of learning this larger context within which to practice homeopathy.
